Poblacion Market Central, the newest lifestyle destination in Davao, was launched last August 14, 2022. Alsons Development and Investment Corporation made shopping, dining, and entertainment a bit more exciting.
Deemed as where “heritage meets hip”, Poblacion Market Central will be the fertile middle ground where traditions are celebrated and contemporary takes on art, retail, and gastronomy. It started when the most loved and long-standing tenants of Aldevinco Shopping Center moved to this new space.
It has been less than a year since the first customers walked into this new hub. Alsons Dev has delivered a well-curated merchant mix of art, antiques, souvenir shops, restaurant, and retailers. To date, Poblacion has over 70 merchants with more upcoming in the fourth quarter of this year.
The event was attended by some known Davao personalities such as the City Mayor Baste Duterte, Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, VM Melchor Quitain, Jr., Kublai Millan, Cecile Alcantara Dominguez and Jolla Soriaga.
The crowd was in awe when the Sarimanok-inspired mural of Kublai Millan was unveiled. The bright colors of the mural served as a symbol of how colorful and festive the culture of Davao is. This is also timely for the Kadayawan season.
♥︎ Kukun Food Hall ♥︎
Kukun, short for “Kusina at Kultura ng Dabaw” welcomes local and international visitors in time for the Kadayawan Festival. You can experience most of the proudly Davao restaurants such as Majid’s Kebab, Kaizen, Porky’s Best, and Claribel restaurant. Refreshing milk and fruit drinks from Hootsa. The mocktails and cocktails from Myami Vyce Resto Bar. And also the popular coffeehouse chain Bo’s Coffee serves single-origin beans from across the Philippines.
♥︎ Art Gallery ♥︎
What I love about Poblacion Market Central is that the whole place is intricately done. From the graffiti walls, painted murals, and the “okir” wood carvings by Maranao artists. They also have an art gallery inside where they feature different local artists from time to time. You can check Poblacion’s social media pages to know the schedules of displays.
♥︎ Souvenir Shops ♥︎
When it comes to us Filipinos, we love to buy souvenirs or pasalubong for our friends and families whenever we travel. From the shiny south-sea pearls to meticulous batik-designed garments, the colorful sarongs, and many more. This is the perfect place where you can bring your visitors, especially the first-time ones.
I love how this place becomes like a melting pot of different Mindanaoan tribes. It is indeed the place where the heritage of Davao meets the possibilities of a hip and ever-evolving market.
