If you’re a fellow ARMY, you probably remember BTS FESTA 2020 when RM tackled making Japchae. Between his signature chaotic knife skills and legendary carrot-chopping moments, it was equal parts iconic and hilarious.
My cooking skills are pretty much on par with Namjoon’s, but today I attempted to recreate his legendary Japchae and thankfully, I brought in a secret weapon to make sure nothing got burnt to a crisp!

Gathering Ingredients & My Kitchen Secret Weapon
My mission started with a grocery trip to T&T Supermarket to grab all the fresh ingredients. While wandering down the aisles, I realized that if I was going to pull this off without setting off the smoke alarm, I needed better cookware than my old sticky pans. That’s when I picked up the Cooker King 32 cm Titanium-Iron Wok.
When your knife skills and heat control are completely unpredictable, this pan essentially acts as a safety net:
Heats Fast: It reaches stir-fry temperatures quickly so veggies stay crisp and beef sears evenly.
Cooks Even: It eliminates hot spots, keeping delicate glass noodles from sticking or scorching.
Generous 32 cm Size: High-deep walls give you plenty of room to toss ingredients around without half your meal ending up scattered on the stove.
Easy to Clean: Because the surface lets food slide off effortlessly, clean-up afterwards takes seconds, no endless scrubbing or soaked pans needed.
BTS RM-Style Japchae Recipe
Ingredients
- 100g Beef Rump (thinly sliced)
- 30g Oyster Mushrooms (sliced)
- 1 Carrot (julienned)
- 1 Onion (sliced)
- Green Onions (chopped)
- Glass Noodles
Beef Marinade
- 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 tsp Sugar
- Minced Garlic
- Black Pepper
Japchae Sauce
- 3 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2 tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- Black Pepper

Step-by-Step Instructions
Prep & Marinate
- Slice the oyster mushrooms, green onions, onion, and carrots.
- In a small bowl, combine the sliced beef rump with 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp sesame oil, 1 tsp sugar, minced garlic, and black pepper. Mix well and set aside so the meat absorbs all the flavor.
- Whisk together the main sauce ingredients (3 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp sesame oil, 1 tbsp sugar, and black pepper) in a separate bowl.
2. Stir-Fry in the Wok
- Heat the Wok: Place your Cooker King Wok over medium-high heat.
- Sauté Onions & Carrots: Add the sliced onions and carrots first, stirring as the pan heats up.
- Cook the Beef: Toss in the marinated beef rump and garlic, stir-frying until browned.
- Add Mushrooms & Green Onions: Add the sliced oyster mushrooms and chopped green onions into the wok, letting them soften alongside the beef and veggies.
3. Combine & Toss
- Add the prepared glass noodles directly into the wok.
- Pour the prepared Japchae sauce over the noodles and stir-fry everything together. The titanium-iron surface cooks everything evenly, coating every single strand without sticking.

How It Turned Out 😋
Plated up, topped with green onions, and ready to serve! The glass noodles turned out perfectly chewy, the beef was juicy, and the veggies held their bright color and crunch. Best of all, wiping down the wok at the end took practically zero effort.
If someone with Namjoon-level cooking skills can turn out a restaurant-quality bowl of Japchae, literally anyone can pull this off. Give this recipe a try for your next BTS marathon night! 💜
