Sailor Moon inspired Outfit ~ Sailor Chibi Moon

May 7, 2020

Sailor Moon really made an impact to my whole childhood. Growing up during the late 90’s and early 2000’s, my childhood was all about anime. I grew up loving almost every single show that time. From the famous Pokemon, Digimon, Slam Dunk, Cooking Master Boy, Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, Samurai X, and the list goes on! I remember back in the days, I wanted to go home immediately because I wanted to catch my favorite anime in AXN.

Just a quick background, Sailor Moon is a Japanese anime series which is about the adventures of a school girl named Usagi Tsukino. After meeting Luna, a talking black cat who gave her a magical brooch enabling her to transform into Sailor Moon. She then leads a diverse group of comrades, the Sailor Senshi. Together, they battle against villains to prevent the theft of the Silver Crystal and the destruction of the Solar System.

This anime was a big hit mostly to all girls as the animation was so magical and visually stunning! From their 90’s chic outfits, the color theme of the setting, and the characters visuals. The series had a soft and dreamy backgrounds, with shades of pink, blue, purple and yellow. It was like you’re inside a pastel dreamland.

Moreover about its visual, what really Sailor Moon stands out from other anime is that it has many lessons. The series taught its fans about confidence, friendship and love, and empowered its female fan base, showing them that they can be just as tough as the boys without losing their femininity. These magical warriors have become global icons, and will continue to influence the world of animation.

♡ My Sailor Moon inspired Outfit: Sailor Chibi Moon or Chibiusa ♡

Last year, I attended a nautical themed Christmas party. Everyone was expected to bring their A game in dressing up in line with the theme. So, as a Sailor Moon fan, I decided to dressed up as Sailor Chibiusa. I know that it was not that really related to nautical but at least I’m still a sailor?? haha.

So, I chose Sailor Chibiusa because obviously because of her designated color of her costume was pink. Also, she’s known as the future child of Sailor Moon, that’s why she looked like a kid. Which is somehow timely for me because I’m small and always been mistaken as a kid. Look at my Sailor Chibiusa inspired outfit! It was only inspired because I don’t want to look like costumey and like I was doing a cosplay.

♡ The Outfit ♡

The top has a sailor baby collar that which extends to the back. Then there’s a big bow or ribbon attached at the center with the transformation brooch which is by the way a collection of mine. While the skirt is designed with a knife pleats. The whole concept of the outfit is trying to replicate what Japanese school uniform for girls looked like. I used a neoprene fabric so that it would be stretchable also it will have some structure and weight for the skirt.

Both the top and skirt are made from RL Fashion & Lifestyle. I personally instructed our sewers on how the design would look like. I was aiming for the simple and basic design since I don’t want to be more like a costume. Also, I can still wear it even for casual days. Plus, I can even match it with my other clothes!

♡ The DIY Luna-P Bag ♡

Yeap! It’s a DIY bag. Luckily, I do own a circular black bag. That’s when I came up an idea just to decorate it. So, I searched my bedroom for any kind of art materials. I was able to find an illustration board, old colored construction papers, and a glue. I proceeded to look up in the Internet what Luna-P looked like for my reference. After, I just cut the illustration board into a circular form. Then, I cut the shapes that will form the face of Luna-P. And, ta-da! Hahaha! I know, it looks kinda cheap but it’s only for the party. I don’t really need to splurge some money just to achieve a perfect prop.

♡ The Shoes ♡

Since boots are kinda hard to find here in Davao City. So, I just looked inside my shoe box and just find anything that matches the whole look. At first, I was aiming to wear heels. But then I realized that since I’m an officer and will be doing some running during the whole event, I decided to go with these platform wedge sneakers. I got these from my recent Japan trip last November. I really love these sneakers because of its high platform that can definitely add some height. Plus, it’s super lightweight that’s why I can surely stand or even run for hours with these.

♡ Major Throwback ♡

My love for Sailor Moon is really immeasurable. And I got a proof that I’ve been a fan since I was a kid. My mom actually made me something similar when she was still practicing sewing and making clothes, and our business which was the dress shop, was still on the process. She made a Sailor Venus costume for my birthday. Yes, Sailor Venus was my first bias not Sailor Moon. It was because my zodiac sign is Libra. Then the ruling planet for Libra is Venus. Presenting baby Roxanne with her Sailor Venus outfit. Hahaha!

This post is such a major throwback. I know I’m not a kid anymore but I just want to be like one even while wearing this outfit.  I feel like a real Sailor Senshi. Now that I think about it, my childhood dream was actually to be Sailor Moon. haha! Yeah, I’m starting to type some nonsense here.  I just want to share my experience and how did I come up with the whole idea. It may be not that helpful for you but at least I got to express myself especially my little creativity. Just a breath of fresh air amidst all that are happening lately. Hope I was able to take off some of your stress and maybe this post will motivate you to express yourself and be more creative.

Till next time, sweeties! ♡
