Insulares de Mayo

June 5, 2018

Last May 31, 2018, Waterfront Insular Hotel gathered all Davao’s home-grown fashion designers for Insulares de Mayo. It’s a fashion show dedicated to our devotion to Mama Mary.

Lucky enough, I got invited to witness the elegant creations of Davao’s desired couturiers. I got really excited whenever I have a chance to watch a fashion show. It gives so much feels, inspirations and realizations to me. I’m always in awe seeing those colorful, detailed and intricate gowns. These gowns are really masterpieces of each designer because I know that they really worked hard on it. From the brainstorming of concepts and pegs to the choosing of the right fabric, then to the application of techniques in sewing to the finishing of its embellishments. That’s why if its possible, don’t haggle too much whenever you’re planning to order a gown. Because definitely it’s not easily like doing a magic in creating a gown.

During the show, there are many gowns that stand out. So, here are some photos of my favorites:

(PS: I’m not a fashion expert or what, I just listed my personal favorites.)

The anointed children which carried the letters spelled AVE MARIA are really too cute to handle! Wearing their minimalistic white gowns, they walked the runway and brought smiles to our faces. Aren’t they just too adorable?

This gown is the fiercest of them all! I can totally imagine Maja Salvador aka Lily Cruz or Ivy Aguas wearing this gown walking fiercely. That very deep neckline is so perfect to give a sultry look. I really like that it was just all black and the black sequins are the perfect embellishments to give the gown a highlight.

This Filipinian gown is definitely the cutest of them all! It’s like every little girl’s dream gown. From its pink color base fabric to the flowery white appliques and to the pink and white beading details, the gown is surely looks dainty.

These 2 white Filipiniana are really the strongest! It’s like a clothing of a warrior princess or a Greek goddess that are ready for battle in the name of justice and love. The details are so on point and intricate! I bet the group who made this had some countless of sleepless nights.

This gown is really my top pick!

I just love how minimalist, clean and chic it looks. It may look plain for others, but for me, I fell in love with this look! It gives a super classy and timeless aura.

Contrary to the previous gown, this one is really a maximalist. I love the color choice which is emerald green. What I love about this is not really the gown itself but the model also. She was quite remarkable because her charm and poses got the audience’s attention. She was really bubbly that night.

Here comes the queen! The Reyna Elena and Constantino was really looking glamourous that night. The filipiniana gown was like a big chandelier that really shines and shimmers!

My top 2! This one is really extravagant and grandiose. I think the look was inspired with Sto Nino’s clothes and the alampay. It’s like they combined the religion and the filipino culture in one.

The couteriers was applauded and awarded with a certificate of registration. A total of 28 creative designers joined the fashion show.

After the fabulous show, Sir Alfonso “Boy” Guino-o, a respected proudly Davao fashion designer was paid tribute and applauded. He’s definitely Davao’s acknowledged fashion icon.

Well, look at my face there! It’s pretty obvious that I definitely enjoyed the whole show. Thanks for inviting the Davao Bloggers Society, Waterfront Insular Hotel!
Till next time, sweeties! ♡
