January 18, 2021

Yes, yes, and yes! I’m a big BTS fan. Well, it’s pretty obvious now. Hihi! And in this blog post, I will roll down to you the 7 reasons why I love BTS. And if you haven’t tried checking them out please do and listen to their songs without prejudice.

BTS is a South Korean boy band that debuted on June 13, 2013. In Korean, BTS stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan which means Bulletproof Boyscouts. This name was coined with a meaning that is to block out stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that are aimed at adolescents like bullets to preserve the value and ideals of today’s adolescents. The group consists of 7 members named RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. Now, they have become the biggest K-pop act on the charts. In 2020, they got 3 songs debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Also, they have been nominated for The Best Pop Duo/Group Performance in the Grammy’s.

Some people wonder why they have got these many achievements. What’s up with them? Why do they have many fans? Well, I’m a fan and I will give you my 7 reasons why I love BTS.

7. Multi-Talented Individuals

BTS consists of 3 rappers and 4 vocalists while all of them are extremely good dancers. Other than that, they also write their own lyrics and also co-produce their songs. All 7 of them are registered members at the Korea Music Copyright Association and RM and Suga just recently were promoted as full members of the association. They just have a great passion for music and they really treat it as their art.

Aside from that, all of them can also play instruments and have various talents. RM is an aspiring poet who also has an IQ of 148. Jin can play the keyboard and guitar, good at cooking, and outstanding at acting. Suga can also play the guitar and he’s really good at basketball. Actually, it is where his screen came from. Suga means shooting guard and it is his favorite position in basketball. J-hope is good at beatboxing. Jimin does ice skating. V can play saxophone and loves photography. Then Jungkook is passionate about videography, undeniably a pro-gamer, very good in painting and drawing, and many more. He does have many talents that’s why he is known as their “Golden Maknae” because he’s excelling at everything he does.

6. Funny, chaotic, and have a strong bond

The boys are effortlessly funny. BTS has many video content such as their Run BTS, BTS In The Soop, Bon Voyage, and they also do live streams and vlogs. From these contents, you can genuinely see how chaotic and funny they are. As all BTS fan says, BTS is an instant serotonin booster. We love to see them in their most comfortable state. They play with each other and also never forgets to show their love and appreciation to each other. Also, they are not shy about hugging, holding each other hands, and being close to each other. They just simply have this brotherly love for each other and you can definitely see it. The boys even said before that they feel that each member is like their cellphone and a wallet. As if they don’t have them they feel lost and seem like something is really missing.

5. Humble boys

Amidst their achievements, BTS has been humble. Even if many have been comparing them to the Beatles, they don’t want to be named as the “next” Beatles. They clearly just said that they’re just some boys from Korea who loves music and performance. Also even though they’re rich and famous now, they don’t love the stereotypical “rock star” lifestyle. Instead, they keep on donating to different causes that they care about quietly. Many times their philanthropy only becomes public knowledge because those who received it bring it to the public’s attention. Their recent huge donation was the 1 Million US dollars to the Black Lives Matter then after 24 hours, ARMY matched it with another 1 Million USD.

4. Great storytellers

What usually people got hook to BTS is their interesting storyline. What do I mean by it? It is what the fans called B.U. or Bangtan Universe. This universe is somehow similar to the MCU. It is a fictional universe that they have created as a vehicle of storytelling. It started in their music video “I Need U” (released April 29, 2015), BTS began to portray characters in some of their videos. As the storyline progressed and BTS became more successful, the storyline branched out to other platforms. As you’ll see, there is BU certified content in music videos, short films, VCRs, a webtoon, a book, a mobile game, and the HYYH Notes. Even in their performance, tweets and some symbols are also connected to the storyline.

The Bangtan Universe also known as The Most Beautiful Moment mostly tackles certain issues that are taboo for some such as mental health, abuse, accidents, parental neglect, and other darker parts of youth and growing up. They also infused some folklore, psychology theories such as Carl Jung’s Map of the Soul and Hermann Hesse’s novel Demian. And because of that fans love to speculate and create some theories about the whole storyline which keeps us to be more interactive and attached to it. So if ever you’re watching their music video, always keep your eyes open for their hints.

3. Unique personalities and characteristics

The boys have been consistent in showing their true personalities that’s what fans love about them. You can really distinguish each individual since they are all unique. Even BTS themselves wondered how they have come to understand each other when all of them are different.

We got RM as a genius and loves bonsai. Jin is very funny and calls himself the “Worldwide Handsome” to boost his confidence as he was a shy person before. Suga is an introvert and tends to sleep all the time because he usually makes music during the wee hours. J-hope is the sunshine of the group and always full of energy. Jimin is a very cute and caring person but also the muscle man of the group. V is the indifferent one but in a good way and does think creatively. Jungkook is very passionate about everything he does, very competitive, and most independent among BTS members.

2. Their Message and their Lyricism

BTS is well known for its songs to have powerful messages. These messages are addressing serious social issues and also at the same time motivation for all young people around the world. They tackled a subject that the vast majority of youth experience such as mental health, desire to belong in society, temptation to sin, self-love. They also brought up criticisms of South Korean society such as the education system and societal expectations, the caste system, and generational disparity. This kind of music is not that common especially in the world of k-pop.

Aside from their message, the lyrics of their songs are top tier. They usually use wordplay from Korean to English, metaphors, and entendres. My most favorite would be RM’s Trivia: Love. The whole song is full of wordplay and metaphors. The perfect example is the line, “I’m just a person, you eroded all of my edges and turned me into a love”. In this line, RM used the Korean characters as a basis. Human in Korean is saram “사람” in Korean Namjoon literally eroded the edges of ㅁ into ㅇ which is love sarang “사랑”.

1. Most sincere persons and always shows love to ARMY

BTS always gives back all the love and support that they have received from their fans. They have countless songs that are dedicated to their fans as their love letter and they even released them for free as their gifts to the ARMY. Aside from it, BTS loves to interact with their fans. They do live streams, comment on fan cafes, and even play online games with the fans. They really have the ability to reach out to their fans. All of them love to give advice that is very timely and relatable.

Even in their performances, they always include ARMY. They put some symbolism such as purple hearts, a whale, the AMRY logo and so much more. BTS also doesn’t forget to give a big shoutout on every award speech.

It’s really my first time to find an artist who does all of these. They are really just the most precious people in the world. They want to be an artist who gives comfort and healing to everyone. This is why I really love them so much. BTS has helped countless fans who are dealing with their personal and life issues. And as most of the ARMY said, you’ll meet and get to know BTS when you needed them the most.

And that’s how I’ve fallen in love with BTS. They really made an impact on me and helped me through my tough times. Some people say we’re weird and delusional but I don’t see the boys as my boyfriends. I look up to them and they’re my inspiration especially in terms of working very hard and pursuing the things that are essential and really do make you happy. And lastly, I finally discovered the most important kind of love which is self-love thanks to them.

I hope this blog post will help you understand more about BTS and will give them a chance. Just listen to their songs without prejudice and their magic will work on you too. Till next time sweeties! 💜
