Whimsy Spring Activities to Do Instead of Doom Scrolling

March 12, 2026

Spring is genuinely the best time of year to be outside and the worst time to be on your phone. The cherry blossoms are blooming. The air smells like possibility. The whole world is waking back up in the most beautiful way. This is not the season to spend on a couch scrolling. This is the season actually to be in it.

So I put together my favorite whimsy spring activities for exactly that. Things that pull you away from the screen and into the real, soft, gorgeous world in front of you. I split everything into three sections so you can choose which calls to take on any given day. Get outside, create something at home, or treat yourself to something that fills your cup.

No big plans needed. No spending a lot of money. Just intentional, slow, genuinely lovely ways to spend the most beautiful season of the year.

These are the whimsy spring activities that get you off your phone and into the actual world. Spring is too beautiful to experience through a screen. These moments are best lived in person with all your senses fully on.

1. Chase the Cherry Blossoms

Cherry blossom season is honestly one of the most stunning things nature does all year. And because it only lasts a couple of weeks, it always feels so precious. This is always the first thing I add to my spring list.

Tips for the most magical blossom photos:

Go early in the morning before crowds arrive. The light is soft, the air is still, and the whole moment feels like it belongs only to you. Wear something flowy in whites, creams, or blush pinks. Look for petals on the ground as well as on the branches. Some of my favorite shots have been with petals scattered across a path or floating in a puddle.

Bring a film camera if you have one. The grain and warmth make blossom photos look like they belong in a storybook. In Toronto, High Park is iconic. Trinity Bellwoods has gorgeous blossoms. Some of the quieter streets in the Annex also have blossoms that feel like a hidden gem. I went to Robarts Library too and have some tips on where to get your Instagram-worthy photos! 2. Visit a Dreamy Tulip Farm

Standing in a field of tulips in every color you can imagine is an experience that evokes intense joy. It can even make you feel like crying. I went for the first time last spring, and it completely changed me. It sounds dramatic, and it absolutely is that beautiful.

Most Ontario tulip farms open for u-pick in late April through mid May. You walk through the fields, pick your own bouquet, and leave feeling like a character in a cottagecore dream sequence.

3. A Cute Picnic at a Park

A picnic is such a simple pleasure. I think we genuinely underestimate how good it feels to eat outside on a blanket in the sun. There is truly no version of this that is not lovely.

Put a little extra care into the basket. Cute containers, a real blanket, sparkling water with sliced fruit, a little charcuterie situation. Small details that make the whole thing feel considered and beautiful.

4. Read a Romcom Book Outside

Grab your current romcom read, find a sunny patch in the park or a cute cafe patio, and just read. That is the whole activity. No multitasking, no podcast in one ear. Just you and the story.

There is something so specifically lovely about reading a light, warm, romantic book outside in spring. The genre matches the season in a way that feels almost intentional. Everything is blooming, the air smells sweet, and you are reading about two people falling in love. It is genuinely perfect.

Make it a whole moment

Bring an insulated tumbler or a cute iced drink. Wear your prettiest spring outfit. Give yourself full permission to do absolutely nothing else for two hours. You deserve that.

Not every spring day calls for going out. These whimsy spring activities are for the slower days at home. Use these days to make something beautiful, reset your space, or do something with your hands that is not scrolling.

5. Do a Spring Clean of Your Wardrobe and Digital Life

Spring is the perfect time to reset because the season itself is all about starting fresh. A cluttered closet and a chaotic phone feed both quietly drain your energy in ways you do not always notice. Clearing them out is not just tidying. It is protecting your peace.

Wardrobe Spring Cleaning

Pull everything out, try pieces on, and be honest about what still feels like you. Donate what no longer fits your current era. Fold what is left with care. Notice how much lighter your closet feels. It is much easier to get dressed when everything in there is something you actually love.

Digital Declutter Spring Cleaning

Unfollow accounts that make you feel small or anxious. Delete apps you open out of habit rather than joy. Organize your camera roll into seasonal albums. Clear out your downloads folder. Archive old files. Clean up your email. It takes maybe an hour, and you will feel genuinely lighter after. Your digital space affects your mental space more than we give it credit for.

6. Host a Spring Dinner with Your Favorite People

There is something so grounding about gathering people you love around a table. Spring is the perfect excuse to bring out the good plates. Use fresh flowers to make an evening that actually feels special.

Imagine a soft sage green table runner. Picture scalloped plates with rose gold edges. Envision crystal champagne flutes. Visualize tall calla lilies in slender glass vases as your centerpiece. A burrata and peach salad is in the middle of the table. Crackers and grazing bites are within reach of everyone. There is a little candle at every seat. The table that makes your guests stop at the door and say, “Wow!!” before they even sit down.

7. Do a Blind Box Unboxing

If you have not fallen down the blind box rabbit hole yet, spring is the perfect time to start. There is something so genuinely delightful about not knowing what you are going to get. It brings out this pure, childlike excitement that is really hard to find elsewhere.

Pick a series that matches your aesthetic. Sanrio, Sonny Angel, Smiski, Baby Three. Whatever calls to you. Let yourself be fully present in the unboxing moment. No shaking the box to guess first. Just the surprise.

Spring is a season of renewal. And that includes you. These whimsy spring activities are about doing something that feels indulgent and intentional. Because you genuinely deserve beautiful things and you do not need a reason beyond that.

8. Get Your Spring Nails Done

This one is so simple, and it makes such a difference. There is something special about looking down at your hands. Seeing little flowers, soft pastels, or a delicate French tip makes everything feel more spring-like.

It can be florals, cherry blossom designs, or pastel tips. Opt for anything that makes you smile when you catch a glimpse of your hands. It is a small thing. But it is the small thing that quietly elevates your whole mood for weeks.

9. Style a Full Pastel Outfit

Not for content. Not for an event. It is spring. You have been wanting to wear that soft yellow dress or those lilac trousers. There is genuinely no reason to wait.

Build a full look around a pastel palette. Soft greens, creams, blush pinks, sky blues, buttery yellows. Layer textures, add a cute bag, do your nails to match, and then go somewhere. The farmers market, a coffee shop, and a walk around the neighborhood. Anywhere!

10. Try Cute Sweet Desserts and Drinks

Spring is the perfect excuse to seek out the most adorable, photogenic treats your city has to offer. Imagine indulging in a strawberry shortcake from a local bakery. Consider enjoying pastel macaroons or an iced matcha latte. Try a sakura-inspired drink from your favorite cafe. Or delight in a soft serve with a flower cone. The whole point is to slow down. Sit somewhere pretty. Actually savour it instead of eating it over your phone. Bonus points if you find somewhere with a cute storefront. Garden seating is also fantastic because it is instant content. It’s an instant mood lift.

A Final Note

The common thread through all of these whimsy spring activities is pretty simple. They pull you into the present moment and away from the endless scroll. Spring is so short and so beautiful. And I genuinely believe we deserve to experience it with all of our senses, not just through a phone screen.

Pick one thing from this list this week. You do not have to do everything. Just start somewhere and let the season carry you.
