Last October 8-9, 2016, the House of Laurel had a Trunk Show in Davao City at Dusit Thani Residences. Me and my fellow Davao bloggers are so lucky to see the collection and be able to meet the one and only Sir Rajo Laurel, one of the most prominent fashion designer in the Philippines.
The House of Laurel is a boutique fashion house in Makati that is co-founded by Rajo Laurel and his sister Venisse. They offer “made to order couture” which is a combination of couture and ready to wear apparel.
Rajo Laurel himself introduced his collection to us. He talked about his inspirations for this collection and why he chose Davao to be first in the Philippines to see it fresh from the Paris Fashion Week 2016.
“Magpie + Memphis”, the House of Laurel’s Cruise Collection 2016 is all inspired by the 80’s. With the bold style, bright colors, structured silhouettes, abstract shapes and loud prints of the whole collection, Mr. Rajo Laurel recalls his cheerful teenage years.
In contrast with the loudness of Magpie + Memphis, House of Laurel’s previous spring-summer 2016 collection entitled “The Monast” is more focus of light materials and soft tones of color with minimalistic vibe.
Aside from the clothes, the House of Laurel has a line for children’s wear accessories, clutches and even candles.
Also, We got a chance to try of some of pieces from Magpie + Memphis. We are so lucky to be able to experience it first hand! My other blogger friends are hardly resisting to buy one.

I love the idea that the House of Laurel made it to into a Trunk Show because it becomes more personal and interactive. Also, you can experience the clothes up close like you can touch the material and you can try it. Although compared to a fashion show, where there are models walking in front of you and everything is so formal. But of course, a fashion show has also a beauty of its own like the feels of its glitz and glamour.
I hope someday I would be able to be invited into a glamorous fashion show of a known designer. Here I am again dreaming of things. Well there is nothing wrong if you are always dreaming. So, let’s keep on dreaming! ✨
